Emirates Says Good Night To Neck Pillows

Emirates is introducing a new adjustable headrest designed to improve sleep comfort for Economy Class passengers, with installation already underway across its fleet.

The U-Dream headrest, developed as part of Emirates’ Z400 seat by Safran Seats, provides additional neck and head support through adjustable side wings, vertical movement and tilt functionality. The leather-covered headrest is designed to cradle passengers’ heads during rest, helping to reduce discomfort caused by the head falling forwards or sideways during sleep.

The innovation will be fitted across Emirates’ Airbus A350 fleet and most of its Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. Installation is currently underway, with all A350 aircraft expected to feature the headrest by the end of the year. The U-Dream will also be installed on Emirates’ future fleet of Boeing 777X aircraft, with retrofit programmes for A380 and 777 aircraft beginning from 2027.

The airline said the headrest has been tested and verified to meet European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) safety standards, and cabin crew are being trained to support passengers with its use.

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the development reflected the carrier’s focus on improving the Economy Class experience, particularly for long-haul travellers.

“The U-Dream changes the game if the person wants to sleep – by supporting the neck in full,” he said. “It’s another innovation that shows our commitment to customers.”

Emirates said passenger feedback has highlighted the headrest’s ease of adjustment and comfort benefits, while its wipe-clean design allows it to be cleaned between flights.
